What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water wastewater operator position at Natural Systems Utilities?

SUMMARY :

This position is mobile, headquartered in NSU’s Ham Lake MN, office and serving NSU's Operations, covering the Ham Lake service area, providing operations and maintenance support to various water and wastewater facilities as directed by the operations supervisor.

The mobile operator is an independent well-organized self-starter able to manage his / her own time to complete assigned site coverage(s) in their given allotted time.

Responsibilities include operations and maintenance as well as alarm call response and client satisfaction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Perform critical testing of facility operations, such as pH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine, etc. in order to monitor system condition.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all equipment and plant maintenance.
  • Perform general preventive maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as blower oil, filter and belt changes, pulling and inspecting submersible pumps and floats, etc.
  • Submit event inspection and sampling reported in online database and prepare BRP summary forms based on facility’s operation and / or maintenance records for the client, employer, manufacturer or regulatory agency as required.
  • Inform Supervisor in a timely manner of plant problems, upsets, plant expansion, repairs, etc.
  • Work conscientiously and be aware of safety hazards.
  • Operate plants to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities.
  • Develop scope of work for repairs or resamples and prepare work orders
  • Assist maintenance personnel with pump, blower, motor, valve, etc., removal.
  • Maintain accurate records for gasoline, mileage, timesheets, expenses, etc.
  • Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for assigned route.
  • Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High School diploma
  • Wastewater experience preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 40 hour work week : Monday-Friday, 7 : 00 am 3 : 30 pm
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as requested
  • Overtime as required
  • Understanding of basic laboratory procedures
  • Understanding of basic electrical troubleshooting procedures
  • Climbing ladders, stairs, etc.
  • Bending or stooping

  • Exposure to all weather conditions
  • Operating a motor vehicle
  • Operating landscape equipment
  • Operating power washer
  • Confined Space Entry This may be required on occasion after thorough training session provided by NSU
  • Chemical exposure Training will be provided by NSU for proper handling

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :

  • Valid driver’s license
  • MN Wastewater License (desired)
  • MN Water License (desired)
  • SSTS Service Provider License (desired)

  • Occasionally exposed to blood borne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noise (examples : metal can manufacturing, large earth-moving equipment)
  • Occasionally exposed to very loud noise (example : jack hammer work)

EQUIPMENT

  • Company-issued vehicle, e.g. pickup truck or van
  • Various analytical meters, including, but not limited to, pH meters, DO meters, composite sampler
  • Electrical multimeter
  • Computer and / or tablet and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, and computer printer
  • Landscape equipment such as a pressure washer, lawn mower, brush mower, chainsaw and generator
  • Power tools such as drills, impact drivers, reciprocating saw
