Description

The City of Norfolk, Maritime Center – Nauticus is seeking to hire an Admissions Manager for Visitor Services. The Admissions Manager supervises financial functions and manages visitor services by overseeing cashiers and answering telephone inquiries, while providing leadership and guidance to the Admissions Team in relation to ticket sales, POS (Altru), guest relations and daily operations.

Nauticus is a maritime discovery center located along the waterfront in downtown, Norfolk offering a unique form of experiential learning for all ages. Through interactive exhibits and STEM to STERN programming, Nauticus uses the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, sailing center, and Schooner Virginia to tell the story of the maritime environment, industry, and the military.

Department Hiring Salary Range: $41,503 - $47,728

Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Manages visitor services by supervising cashiers, preparing deposits, tracking and reporting overages and shortages, ensuring that policies and procedures for cash handling are followed, conducting meetings and training cashiers, composing memorandums, maintaining records, recording and reporting visitor injuries, and dispersing monies received form ticket booths to the proper location.
  • Performs financial duties by researching records, preparing spreadsheets, processing fiscal documents and invoices, monitoring accounts, processing payroll, dispersing and replenishing petty cash, processing checks, performing voids and refunds, and performing staff audits.
  • Performs support duties by answering telephone inquiries, maintaining personnel records, coordinating disability management meetings, and tracking employee injuries and Workman's Compensation.
  • Takes an active role in assisting the Visitor Services Manager in the develop of all facility policies and procedures ensuring those policies balance the needs of the guest and Nauticus.
  • A service-oriented professional who leads by example anticipating the needs of the guest and delivering exemplary customer service.
  • Works alongside staff coaching, mentoring and ensuring the highest level of customer service is delivered daily.
  • Acts a host to each guest by demonstrating behavior that supports a positive, cheerful and professional attitude.

Education/Experience

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

One year of experience in guest services, preferably in a supervisory role.

Altru experience preferred or similar POS knowledge, preferred

  • Valid Driver's license may be required depending on assignment.

Work Location: One Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA 23510

Work Schedule: April 1 through Labor Day - Monday through Friday. Labor Day through March 31 - Tuesday through Saturday. Hours are 8:45am to 5:15pm

Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.

  • Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
  • Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
  • Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.

If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

  • The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
