Position Summary:
The Revenue Accountant is responsible for the accurate, complete, and timely recording of revenue generated from transportation, storage, terminaling, and related midstream crude oil services. This role ensures that revenue recognition aligns with contractual terms and company policies, working cross-functionally with Commercial, Operations, and Scheduling teams. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of volume movement, tariffs, and complex customer arrangements such as minimum volume commitments (MVCs).
Key Responsibilities (Sequenced by Workflow):
• Maintain and update internal revenue tracking tools and workbooks with contract changes, amended terms, and new customer details.
• Review and apply monthly pricing (e.g., NYMEX) and update internal systems to reflect commodity rates and applicable escalations.
• Receive and process shipper-to-shipper transfer data; update systems accordingly to reflect ownership changes.
• Validate and allocate incoming and downstream volumes using data from measurement systems, nominations, and third-party reports.
• Collaborate with Operations teams to identify ticket discrepancies, and resolve data integrity issues prior to closing.
• Ensure revenue recognition aligns with executed commercial agreements, including published tariff rates, MVCs, storage commitments, and throughput arrangements.
• Perform closeout procedures within revenue tracking system, including pre-close checks, ticket corrections, and final invoice generation.
• Prepare and distribute accurate customer invoices, shipper statements, and supporting schedules based on validated data.
• Coordinate the submission of invoices via email or customer platforms (e.g., OpenInvoice) and maintain distribution lists for accurate and timely delivery.
• Record, analyze, and reconcile monthly revenue related to pipeline transportation, storage, terminaling, and buy/sell agreements.
• Monitor revenue activity for anomalies and prepare necessary adjustments and journal entries, including for deferred revenue recognition and accruals.
• Track and validate cash receipts; follow up on outstanding payments and ensure correct application.
• Reconcile Accounts Receivable and Inventory accounts.
• Prepare reports and schedules to support financial reporting, audits, and internal reviews.
• Support continuous improvement of revenue accounting processes and ensure compliance with internal controls.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5 years of revenue accounting experience, preferably within the midstream oil & gas industry.
• Solid understanding of tariffs, throughput billing, shipper agreements, and volume allocations.
• Experience working with MVCs, storage contracts, and deferred revenue recognition is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with volume measurement and ticketing systems, as well as pipeline nomination and allocation processes.
• Proficient in Excel and ERP/accounting systems; NetSuite or Oracle experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical mindset with a high attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
• Proven ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
