Begin a backcountry guiding career in Canyonlands and Arches National Park. NAVTEC Expeditions is an authorized concessionaire of the National Park Service and provides interpretive four wheel drive and whitewater rafting tours.
We are currently accepting applications to fill seasonal positions in Moab Utah.
Anticipated training will begin:
- 4X4 April 7
- River April 20
- Employment will terminate November 30
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- US. Citizenship required
- Background and prior employment history investigation required
- Must possess or be able to obtain a driver’s license
- Professional appearance is required
- Pre-employment drug testing - Random drug testing required
- Applicants must possess a current Wilderness First Responder and CPR or be willing to sign up for a course
DUTIES:
Guides will perform interpretive day and overnight backcountry tours with visitors in four wheel drive vehicles and whitewater rafts.
This will include many facets such as;
- Preparing and rigging of trips
- Loading and unloading
- Maintaining equipment
- Compliance with State BLM and NPS regulations
- Working under varying weather conditions
- Food pack, meal preparations
- Natural history interpretation
- Cleaning vehicles boats and trip gear, maintenance projects
- Educating visitors on backcountry etiquette
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must demonstrate;
- Specialized experience, knowledge, technical skills, or abilities related to backcountry travel.
- Commitment to conservation, and conduct themselves with courtesy and respect.
- Knowledge of Canyonlands and Arches geology, archeology, ecology, history, and resource management or requires significant personal reading.
- We are willing to train personable enthusiastic people with positive attitudes who are willing to commit the time and energy for the extensive on the job training needed to guide a commercial trip.
- Applicants will be judged by their ability to travel and work in a backcountry setting, knowledge of resource, and ability to communicate and work effectively with guests and other guides.
Qualified candidates will be offered to participate in our unpaid preseason training program. Guides who successfully complete the preseason training will be offered employment.
