What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Inspector 2nd shift position at NB Target Metal Blanking?
Summary:
Responsible for the inspection of material processed on blanking lines.
Core Activities:
- In Process Inspection and Reports:
i. Perform first/last hit inspection. When not available the operator / supervisor will step in.
ii. 100% visual inspection of all material at the Inspection Stand.
- Report findings during inspection:
i. Report to the Press Operator all defects that are being rejected, and for what reasons.
ii. Report to the supervisor any defects that would cause a coil to be rejected.
- Reports:
i. All hold for inspection or rework material.
ii. Provide samples and photographs.
iii. Add everything to MIS.
- Gamma Reports:
i. File charts and histograms.
- Additional Functions:
i. Assist Piler Operators between coils.
ii. Weekly cleaning of all gauges and fixtures.
iii. Assist Press Operators when needed or requested.
iv. Provide a detailed pass down to the next quality Inspector.
v. Complete projects as assigned.
- Has the authority to stop production if necessary to correct quality or safety problems.
g. Give disposition of material (hold for rework, claim, hold for re-inspection).
- Institute rework process.
- Dock audits
- Modify or create BQIR’S and RSP’S
- Make visual aids for the plant.
- Internal audits for ISO14001 and IATF16949 report findings to Quality manager.
- Complete all daily checklists.
- Collect Data for SPC.
- Creation of quality alerts and training.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to adhere to general office procedures (i.e. protocol, professionalism, punctuality, etc.).
- Ability to operate office equipment (i.e. computer system, telephone, copier, facsimile, etc.).
- Ability to interface and communicate with others (internally and externally)
- Must possess the ability to work a flexible schedule to coincide with just in time manufacturing.
- Must possess the knowledge of the making of steel as well as the ability to identify the various types of steel.
- Must have 20/20 vision or corrective lenses to 20/20 sight.
- Must have strong mathematical skills.

- High School Diploma or GED
- Steel inspection background
- Manufacturing background
- Heavy equipment background
- Statistical Process Control (SPC) background.
