Description Of Work

The Assistant Judicial District Manager I will supervise a part of the unit to include direct line supervision of CPPO's and clerical personnel. Position will perform audits of CPPO's and conduct training of new CPPO's which includes but is not limited to assigning cases, coordinating workflow and schedules. Position will ensure staff is properly trained. The Assistant Judicial District Manager may work a reduced CPPO caseload and assist the Judicial District Manager in managing a judicial district.

Position will assist with conducting internal investigations. This position will be involved with disciplinary, dispute and employee performance management. Incumbent may serve as lead interviewer for vacant positions. Position is responsible for various reports to include but not limited to firearm inspections and inventory.

  • Express oneself clearly in oral and written form,
  • Demonstrate pro-social skill building and problem solving,
  • Establish an appropriate course of action to ensure completion of assigned duties within given time frames,
  • Maintain a calm and rational composure when dealing with difficult situations and individuals and exhibit the ability to focus on the task at hand.

Position is certified by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with benefits . **Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.**

As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state's pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range will be $50,633.00 - $ 88,607 .00.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

Must Possess Thorough Knowledge Of

  • North Carolina offender supervision,
  • Available treatment services and community resources,
  • Determining the appropriate levels of supervision for offenders and assessing and responding to the needs of offenders through counseling or other methods,
  • Community Supervision policies and procedures
  • Counseling, interviewing, recruitment, placement, employee retention and investigation techniques
  • The principles of Evidence Based Practices, the Justice Reinvestment Act, probation/parole, post-release, structured sentencing, criminal law and statutory guidelines
  • Community Supervision personnel policies and procedures
  • Criminogenic behavior and related offender supervision techniques
  • Services available to offenders from private and public providers

Management Prefers

  • Basic knowledge of subordinate staff positions and Department of Adult Correction and Community Supervision personnel policies and procedures, especially regarding performance (NC VIP), discipline, and various leave policies; the AJDM serves as a coach and mentor to staff within his/her district to enhance their skills and abilities and must hold staff accountable for workload,
  • Thorough knowledge of Community Supervision goals, objectives, and policies,
  • Hands-on experience with case planning, structured intervention worksheets and delegated authority, and working knowledge of structured sentencing, evidence-based principles and Justice Reinvestment
  • Working knowledge of the N.C. General Statutes, the Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, and the Section of Prisons.

There is frequent travel with occasional overnight stay; must have the ability to legally and safely operate a motor vehicle for job related purposes and long periods of time during both day and night hours and adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience as a Probation/Parole Officer, or Corrections Administrator in a technical or administrative capacity involved with the application and interpretation of policies and the development of procedures in assigned area and one year of experience as Chief Probation/Parole Officer, Corrections Supervisor, or Corrections Program Administrator in a consultative capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Bachelor's degree is a requirement. There is no equivalency for the four-year degree requirement based on N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

DCS is also responsible for the supervision of offenders who transfer from other states through the Interstate Compact program and has oversight of the Community Service Work Program.
