What are the responsibilities and job description for the Long Distance Truck Driver position at NC Department of Adult Correction?
Description Of Work
The primary purpose of this position is to load, transport and unload all materials manufactured by North Carolina Enterprise Fresh Produce Plant located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Tillery, NC.The major purpose of this position is to operate a road tractor, transporting cargo on a variety of routes. Duties will involve the skilled and safe operation of a tractor-trailer for transporting cargo on lengthy trips in state. Employees work somewhat independently and are responsible for the security and good condition of the load, record keeping, and route planning and determination. Work may include some public relations and other duties. There are long periods of sitting in this position. Work requires turning the steering wheel, changing the gears, and depressing the clutch, gas and brake pedals with considerable effort. It requires constant hand and eye coordination and frequent use of hands, arms, and legs while operating the vehicle. Overtime may be necessary to complete the day's delivery. Periodically, this employee will be required to stay overnight when making certain runs to the western part of the state. The operation of the vehicle is done independently and governed by traffic rules and regulations. Work is assigned by verbal command, or in written form. Work is reviewed to determined timeliness of delivery, condition of cargo upon delivery, accuracy of records and condition of vehicle. This employee is responsible for safely transporting fresh produce and canned goods to Prison facilities across the state.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits .

Braille - Certified Braille Transcriber certificate must be obtained within 18 months of hire

- Must demonstrate previous experience handling a truck tractor-trailer rig combination.
