NEW HIGHER PAY: $34,270 - $59,973
The Challenge
We are hiring an experienced Transportation Worker III to join our Traffic Services team.
In this role, you will:
- Perform maintenance involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control devices along the NC road network across 7 counties.
- Perform maintenance activities, including posting of signs (speed limits, no parking zones, traffic warnings, etc.), flagging, installing historical makers, repairing/replacing damaged/weathered signs, speed zones, vegetation removal, road closures, and properly signing detour routes.
- Perform annual nighttime sign reviews for the condition of sign reflectivity and maintain proper documentation for use in developing annual maintenance plan.
- Perform snow and ice control operation during storm conditions.
- Maintain inventory of all signs and materials kept on the truck such as posts, nuts, bolts, and specialized hardware for historical markers and decorative sign posts.
- Perform heavy lifting.
- Oversee 2 sign crews by organizing, planning, prioritizing work, and training less experienced transportation workers.
- Complete facility and worksite audits.
What You Bring
- Experience installing traffic controls, such as detours, lane closures, and roadway signs.
- Experience evaluating sign condition and retro reflectivity.
- Intermediate Work Zone Safety experience.
- Experience operating a sign truck with attachments.
- Good eyesight to evaluate signs.
- Safety toe footwear.
- Communications skills to communicate well with people.
- Ability to work effectively in extreme temperature conditions and walk/stand for long periods of time on uneven and sloping terrain and around high volumes of traffic.
- Strength to perform heavy lifting.
- Ability to safely operate CDL-required equipment/trucks with manual and automatic transmissions at hire or within 360 days
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker (N) endorsement. (Don't have it? Still apply! You can get it within 360 days of hire through our on-the-job training program).
Notes
- The job may require evening and weekend work.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 3 years for alcohol/drug abuse.
Education & Experience
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 5 years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
