The College of Engineering at NC State University created in the late 1980’s distance education programs to serve the educational needs of the citizens of North Carolina and practicing engineers and computer scientists in the region. The Office of Distance Engineering Education, known as Engineering Online, is responsible for the coordination of synchronous and asynchronous classes, registration of students, handling student issues regarding course delivery, student services, marketing of programs, and working with faculty in the development and delivery of classes.
The mission of the 2 2 Engineering transfer program is to promote and facilitate opportunities for students from the southeastern part of North Carolina to transfer to the College of Engineering at NC State. This position is the key liaison in coordinating with UNC Wilmington on matters relevant to the administration and success of the engineering distance education program.
Essential Job Duties
This position is the local administrator responsible for coordinating with UNC-Wilmington on matters relevant to the administration and success of the engineering distance education program.
The position requires the coordinator to spend a minimum of 40% of his/her time in the administration, marketing and coordination of the College of Engineering (COE) course delivery from Raleigh to the Wilmington campus and 60% of time in academic advising and meeting with prospective students, incoming students and veterans.
This position is the primary point of contact for students interested in participating in a 2 2 transfer engineering program and provides administrative and instructional support for the engineering education programs offered by NC State University on the campus of UNC-Wilmington.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Recruiting new students
- Advising admitted students
- Coordinating the scheduling of engineering courses delivered from NC State University and coordinating those taught at UNC-Wilmington
- Coordinating the delivery of distance education courses, and assisting students in the transfer process in a bachelor’s degree program on the NC State campus or to other engineering programs in North Carolina.
Other Responsibilities
- Coordinating the operations of the program’s office
- Developing a fiscal year budget
- Responsible for the use of funds sent from the College following appropriate NC State guidelines
- Record keeping
- Preparing annual reports
- Hiring of personnel to help with the delivery of courses transmitted from the Raleigh campus personnel needed to coordinate laboratory sessions.
- Works closely with NC State faculty to establish faculty office hours, problem sessions and resources available to students in each engineering class. Attendance at NC State or the college’s advising meetings either via zoom or in person.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Requires post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
- University or college experience in working with undergraduate students
- Familiarization with North Carolina State University (NCSU) and/or University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) and Community College systems
- Administration of distance engineering programs and the workforce development issues related to southeastern North Carolina.
- Technical skills in use of Excel, Google Chat, Zoom and other Microsoft products.
- Technical competency with distance education technology in the delivery of synchronous and asynchronous courses required.
- Ability to travel around the work site and other locations in North Carolina and attend special meetings on the NC State campus in Raleigh
- MS degree in Engineering, Higher Education, Science, or Math
- Experience in student recruiting and updating website
- Experience in academic advising of undergraduate students, preferably for engineering programs and working with high school students, college freshman, older adults, veterans and transfer students
- Experience in working with university admissions offices to help students with applications
- Experience in communication with prospective students and their parents about the NC State transfer program
