About the Department :
The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost is the Chief Academic Officer for North Carolina State University, which is by some measures, the largest of the 16 Universities in the UNC System. This office is responsible for the academic programs, policies, and budget affecting over 34,000 students in 10 colleges.
The Office of Assessment & Accreditation (OAA), within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, supports NC States strategic mission by promoting continuous improvement, student success, and commitment to excellence through the facilitation of campus-wide assessment and accreditation processes. OAA leads the academic and administrative outcomes assessment processes, and works collaboratively with university stakeholders to coordinate comprehensive external program reviews. OAA is responsible for leading data collection and reporting for accreditation as well as facilitating the substantive change process for the institution.
OAA guides these efforts in congruence with NC States expectations for continuous improvement and excellence as well as with standards for compliance with specialized accreditors and our institutional accrediting body, SACSCOC.
Essential Job Duties :
The Director of Assessment will be charged with supporting university wide efforts to enhance a culture of assessment focused on student and institutional success. The position is in a high-energy environment and the person in the role will need to have a background in educational assessment, strong interpersonal and creative problem solving skills. The Director should be flexible and detail oriented.
This position is based in the Office of Assessment and Accreditation and will be responsible for the following :
- Facilitate and guide the administrative / educational support outcomes assessment process (e.g., Administrative Unit Outcomes Assessment).
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to administrative / educational support, student learning outcomes assessment and program reviews.
- Provide training and support to staff, faculty, program directors, department heads, and associate deans in assessment methods, data collection techniques, and best practices for program assessment and improvement.
- Provide strategic leadership for the assessment process of the General Education competencies in collaboration with the Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA) Assessment.
- Partner with DASA assessment to collect, analyze, and interpret student performance data related to the General Education competencies to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
- Assist with the transition to and ongoing management of the assessment reporting software as well as maintaining the ongoing vendor partnership.
- Co-lead / direct various committees and councils led by the Office of Assessment and Accreditation (e.g., Administrative Assessment Council, Academic Assessment Council, etc.)
- Provide assessment guidance for the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
- Assist with the narrative writing and collection of evidence for assessment-related standards and reporting for institutional accreditation.
- As needed, represent OAA on standing university committees.
