What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Championships and Alliances - Playing Rules and Officiating position at NCAA?
Job Function: This position is responsible for the ongoing administration of playing rules in assigned sports.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as staff liaison to assigned committees with playing rules responsibilities, including men’s basketball, which govern all NCAA contests (regular season and NCAA postseason competition).
- Edit and produce annual rules books and other publications (officiating manuals, online interpretations, etc.), with assistance from the secretary-rules editors of assigned committees.
- Supervise and evaluate secretary-rules editors for assigned sports/playing rules committees.
- Correspond orally and in writing with administrators, coaches, student-athletes, parents, coordinators of officials, officials, facility coordinators, architects, equipment manufacturers, and the general public regarding various topics related to playing rules for the NCAA.
- Monitor and review, as necessary, playing rules with legal counsel and sports science staff to identify and address ramifications of rules committee actions.
- Serve as staff liaison for assigned sports that follow non-NCAA rules and oversee the rules modification process accordingly.
- Collaborate with RefQuest staff, secretary-rules editors, national coordinators and championships operations staff to structure and maintain pertinent and current rules content to register, test, train and educate officials.
- Serve as rules committee representative to coaches’ associations, officiating organizations, and national governing bodies for assigned sports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's Degree Preferred
- Two to four years of previous related work experience in intercollegiate athletics administration required.
- Experience with rules committees or playing rules knowledge.
- Working knowledge of printing and web-based production technology.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Association’s structure, function, and mission.
- Ability to optimize work processes in the most effective and efficient manner, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments
- Ability to anticipate and balance the needs to multiple stakeholders.
- Estimated Travel Required <10%
- This position will be based out of the national office in Indianapolis, Indiana. Current work environment is hybrid; 3 days in the office and 2 days are remote.

Experience
