Job Function: The Managing Director of Procurement Services leads and provides strategic direction for the NCAA’s centralized procurement function, supporting the spend management activities across the organization, currently over $600M. This includes establishing and leading strategic spending practices to ensure customer satisfaction, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. This role will report directly to the Vice President of Finance and Administrative Operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing – the ability to accomplish major strategic negotiations and develop and enhance organization-wide agreements for the benefit of the NCAA.
- Inspires high collaboration, accountability, and service of the procurement function, both interdepartmentally and across the NCAA to drive organizational goals and results
- Use data to inform strategy, decision-making, and solution implementation. Seek opportunities to improve service, consolidate spend, leverage vendors, and reduce costs, including analyzing customer needs and performing spending analytics to identify new opportunities for engagement, service excellence, and improvement
- Responsible for understanding procurement and purchasing best practices. Implement these practices within the NCAA and champion change management, including training, where needed to ensure success.
- Act as the Unit Fiscal Officer for Purchasing, including supporting monthly forecasting and annual planning processes. Collaborate cross functionally with stakeholders and with Finance to drive connectivity between contract management, purchasing, and financial planning.
- Oversee key procurement functions, implementing and maintaining best-in-class systems, policies, and practices. The Managing Director is charged with being an influencer and consensus builder in developing deep, collaborative partnerships and cultivating strong relationships within the NCAA to create buy-in and support for strategic spending initiatives, becoming a thought partner in helping the organization meet its objectives.
- Defines departmental KPIs and develops performance management metrics to measure the success of the group initiatives and utilizes these metrics to ensure continuous improvement. Champion data access, visibility, and reporting to share progress and performance.
- Fosters organizational awareness by maintaining positive relationships with other business units, departments, and third parties, providing exceptional customer service.
- Lead, inspire, and manage the current Procurement team of 5 individuals, transforming their work into strategic spend management.
- Cultivate and develop a high-performing, talented team of professionals, demonstrating teamwork, collaboration, and a constant desire to improve.

Job Requirements
- Education Required: Bachelor's Degree.
- Advanced Degree preferred.
- 8-10 years of progressive procurement management experience required.
- Significant experience transforming procurement departments into professional strategic sourcing organizations.
- Previous experience hiring, managing, and mentoring a team of employees, including performance management, coaching, and professional development.
- Demonstrated experience using data analytics to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify process improvement, cost savings, and policy enhancements; can build effective relationships with business leaders and staff.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing KPIs and metrics to measure performance.
- Excel ability to communicate challenges, solutions, and performance to staff and senior-level executives.
- Excellent communication and relationship skills with a proven ability to lead change, build consensus, influence, and be a trusted and collaborative partner, leading innovative strategies, diverse initiatives, and managing complex business issues.
- Ability to assess organizational technology and service needs.

- This position will be based out of the national office in Indianapolis, Indiana. Current work environment is hybrid; 3 days in the office and 2 days are remote.

Experience
