All recommended salaries are based on each applicant’s qualifying education and related experience in combination with the position’s budgeted salary. The maximum hiring rate for this position is $57,047.
This position is based in the District 1 Office in Stanly County located at 615 Concord Rd, Albemarle. This position will perform routine inspection on a variety of contractor construction projects to ensure general compliance with contract plans, specification and standard drawings. Majority of work consists of inspection duties for driveway permits, encroachments and various District administered contracts such as Contract Resurfacing, etc. Maintain daily pay records and diaries in accordance with NCDOT Standards and Specifications. Ensure all materials incorporated into the project are sampled / tested per NCDOT guidelines. Prepare documentation for preparation of pay estimates to the contractor (District contracts only). Ability to attain NCDOT certifications for asphalt roadway paving, concrete testing, density, Aggregate and Borrow Pit sampling, and other certification as required/needed. Monitor all subcontractors on project to ensure adequate DBE or MB/WB participation per the contract. Perform labor interviews. Assist contractor's personnel and other technicians in interpreting the plans, contract and specifications. Serve as liaison between the contractor and the department and between the department and the public.

May inspect the following: asphalt lay down; stone base construction; chemical stabilization; construction of fill sections; undercut; seeding/mulching; major concrete structures; curb and gutter; milling; driving piles; construction of drilled shafts; signal/sign installation; drainage; utility construction; erosion control; pavement markings; work zone traffic control; concrete pavement. Maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public. Must have the ability to communicate effectively. Both orally and in writing. Must be able to establish positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, and contractors and apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes required.
