National Council of Jewish Women/Cleveland (NCJW/CLE) is at a pivotal moment in its growth. As a section of the oldest Jewish women’s organization in the country, we continue to achieve significant milestones. This past year some examples include providing over 2,000 students with personally curated bags of clothing and full-size toiletries and filling 89 Little Free Libraries with over 40,000 books. However, to sustain and expand our impact, we recognize the urgent need to strengthen our internal finances by hiring a Director of Development.
The hiring of a full-time Director of Development is a strategic investment that will transform our organization’s ability to cultivate donors, secure major gifts, and sustain long-term financial health. This new position will enable us to:
· Increase contributed income by developing a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
· Build stronger, more sustainable relationships with current and prospective donors.
· Secure diversified funding streams, including major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, and events.
The Director of Development will be a key player in ensuring NCJW/CLE has the resources to achieve our future financial sustainability. With this strategic hire, we aim to significantly expand our donor base, deepen donor engagement, and create a sustainable funding model to support our mission for years to come.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Fundraising Strategy and Leadership:
o Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the organization's mission, goals, and financial needs.
o Set annual fundraising goals and track performance to ensure targets are met.
o Lead the development efforts in conjunction with the volunteers to meet and exceed fundraising goals.
o Evaluate and adapt fundraising strategies as needed to reflect changes in the donor landscape and organizational priorities.
2. Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:
o Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
o Develop personalized strategies for major donor cultivation, including planning one-on-one meetings, events, and other engagement activities.
o Create and oversee a donor recognition program to acknowledge and appreciate donors' contributions.
3. Grant Writing and Reporting:
o Identify potential grant opportunities from private, corporate, and government sources.
o Lead the preparation, writing, and submission of grant proposals.
o Ensure timely and accurate reporting to grantors on the use of funds and the progress of funded projects.
4. Fundraising Campaigns and Events:
o Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, including annual giving and special projects.
o Organize and oversee fundraising events, from small donor gatherings to larger events like galas.
o Develop strategies for event sponsorship, ticket sales, and in-kind donations.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with the Executive Director, VP leadership, and Board of Directors to align development strategies with organizational priorities.
o Prepare regular reports for the Executive Committee and Board and on fundraising performance, key metrics, and donor engagement.
6. Team Leadership and Management:
o Collaborate with volunteers and staff for fundraising support as needed.
o Ensure proper systems are in place for donor data management, donor tracking, and accurate record-keeping.
7. Research and Analysis:
o Conduct research on donor prospects, corporate partners, and foundations to identify new sources of revenue.
o Analyze donor trends and behaviors to help refine strategies for future fundraising efforts.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field (Master’s degree a plus).
· At least [5-7] years of fundraising experience, with a proven track record of success in nonprofit development.
· Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, practices, and tools, including major gifts, annual giving, grants, and events.
· Strong knowledge and understanding of Jewish practices, customs, history and community infrastructure.
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling donor communications and deliver presentations.
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
· Experience with donor management software (Preferably DonorPerfect) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
· Passion for the organization's mission and the ability to articulate its impact to potential donors and stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
· Experience working with nonprofit boards and high-net-worth individuals.
· Knowledge of planned giving and corporate sponsorship.
