Job Title – Buyer Planner II

Overall Responsibility
Responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the Company's needs for indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality, and delivery competitive levels consistent with Company policy and performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning, scheduling of receipt and inventory control of the products and services as assigned by MRP and forecast requirements or as appropriately concluded with a requisition. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. This position relies on limited experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals to perform a variety of tasks. Employee will work under general supervision and a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Key areas of responsibility
- Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services, and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; close coordination with leadership to assure timely execution of products and services sourcing activities.
- With limited direction will secure and analyze quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers; and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Works closely with team members to advance enterprise-wide sourcing programs as appropriate.
- Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation, logistics, inventory control and management, negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from a Senior Buyer or department manager for assigned responsibilities.
- Coordinates the planning of recent schedules and inventory control parameters for the assigned products and services consistent with MRP requirements or as arranged with requisitions.
- Coordinates as appropriate, quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.
- Visits suppliers’ facilities to qualify them as new sources and assists in the resolution of production, design, quality, and/or delivery problems.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:
- 2–5 years of experience in the field or a related area.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; a bachelor's degree is a plus, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of basic metallurgy is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret CAD-style mechanical drawings and understand dimensional scaling.
- Proficient in using basic dimensional measuring devices, such as dial calipers and micrometers.
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, bills of materials (BOM), and planning skills.
- Familiarity with lean principles and supply chain management, including material flow and delivery applications.
- Understanding of manufacturing, purchasing, scheduling, and planning processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiating skills.
- Demonstrates good judgment and effective time management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Works under general supervision while assisting less experienced peers.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of ordering policies.
