What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Office of Undergraduate Research position at ncsu-sb?
The Director will be a creative thinker, visionary and network builder who, working with partners across campus, will lead the OUR initiative to reimagine undergraduate research at NC State with a focus on interdisciplinarity, scaffolded experiences, connections with industry and community, flexibility and accessibility in order to provide every NC State student equal access and motivation to complete a mentored research experience. Likewise the director will oversee our current initiative to become the nexus of campus information about undergraduate research opportunities in all 11 NC State colleges, connecting students and faculty for research and creative projects from all across campus. The director oversees and facilitates the work of the Office of Undergraduate Research and its staff (2 full time employees plus undergraduate Ambassadors), to promote, coordinate, support, publicize and celebrate student research opportunities.The occupant of the position will:In conjunction with the Assistant Dean, the Career Development Center, NC State Entrepreneurship and other campus constituencies, create and maintain a plan for the Office of Undergraduate Research which looks to create student research partnerships/internships with local and regional industry on Centennial Campus and the Raleigh community, as well as engaging industry partners and alumni researchers in mentoring current students, participating in symposia, etc.In conjunction with the Assistant Dean and DASA Development, create a development plan which engages alumni and community members in OUR activities and identifies and cultivates possible individual and corporate donors.Create a vision and plan to engage all students in undergraduate research, attending especially to underrepresented groups, 1st gen students, etc., including creatively re-imagining our current funding and mentoring models in order to increase inclusionCollaborate with other Academic Enrichment Programs (University Honors Program, University Fellowship Office, First Year Inquiry) and report regularly to the Assistant Dean, Academic Enrichment ProgramsReport regularly to and assist coordination of research activities and initiatives with the Office of Research and Innovation and the Senior Vice Provost for University Interdisciplinary ProgramsWork with the associate director of OUR toRaise visibility of OUR and undergraduate research opportunities on campus and in community through presentations to students, faculty, other groupsConnect each college and their students to the Office of Undergraduate Research through annual events such as Symposia, Sidewalk Symposium, Orientation, Research week eventsCreate research workshops for faculty mentors and undergraduates and help deepen our pool of faculty mentorsAdminister student grant competitions;Represent NC State in state-wide undergraduate research groups and conferences (SNCURCS), as well as the ACC conference, Meeting of the Minds and the Council on Undergraduate Research and its conference NCUR;Create and maintain a campus-wide undergraduate research inventoryComplete annual assessment and annual reports
