About Us
New England Basecamp is an educational nonprofit based in Rhode Island. Our mission is to empower all students by showing up for and following up with educators as they imagine equitable teaching and learning through authentic partnerships. Through embedded, customized coaching and research-based best practices, we help schools remove barriers to student success. Without the ability to easily cover a classroom, embedding support within the school day can often be impossible without the ability to easily cover a classroom, this is where NEB substitutes come in!
About the Role
Substitute Teachers play an essential role in providing continuity for students while regular classroom teachers participate in professional development opportunities. We support all grade levels across the state so comfort in any classroom is essential. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy flexibility, thrive in diverse learning environments, and excel at building positive connections with students and staff.
Responsibilities
Substitute Teachers will take on the following key responsibilities, among others, to ensure a supportive and effective classroom environment:
- Deliver instruction and maintain classroom routines
- Follow substitute lesson plans provided by the full-time teacher
- Maintain appropriate classroom management and student engagement.
- Accurately record attendance and other required documentation
- Provide guidance and support to students, fostering a positive learning experience
- Complete any necessary clerical tasks related to student records
- Communicate effectively with school staff and adhere to New England Basecamp’s policies
- Paid opportunities to participate in a variety of professional learning and development
What We’re Looking For
To join our team, you should meet the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (required)
- Experience working in K-12 education or schools (highly preferred)
- Completed background check (required)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Flexibility, reliability, and a passion for supporting student success
- A valid driver’s license, access to personal transportation, and willingness to travel within RI (we work with schools all over the state!)

Compensation: $180/day, number of days per week varies and depends on need, every effort will be made to schedule work days in advance
