Position Description

The Child Welfare Program Director serves as a key leader for Nebraska Appleseed. The Program Director, working in conjunction with team members, establishes and executes the vision and outcomes for the program, and ensures that program initiatives and outcomes align with the mission, vision, and values of Nebraska Appleseed. The Program Director is a member of the Program Team and the Director Team. The position is based in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Position Responsibilities

• Ensures work is aligned with the program and strategy area goals and with the strategic objectives of the organization
• Lead, motivate, guide and coach the members of the program team
• Set the overall vision and strategic direction of the program and oversee and execute programmatic work across Appleseed’s 3 core strategies (litigation, community organizing, legislative advocacy) and work with the communications team to develop communications plans
• Initiate community-driven change by ensuring that key stakeholders and community members are actively involved in the process from the inception.
• Conducts weekly meetings with direct reports to receive updates, provide guidance, and understand progress and barriers
• Conducts formal quarterly check-ins with team members, and administers annual team member performance evaluations
• Facilitate regular team meetings with the program team to ensure progress on program goals and objectives
• Establish program goals for the Program Team. Ensure the goals align with the strategic objectives of the organization, and evaluate progress to goals/objectives
• Grant management, including writing and reporting, to ensure the organization meets financial and programmatic requirements of funding
• Directly works with Senior Director team to set the strategy of programmatic work
• Collaborate with key stakeholders and program partners on local, regional, and national levels
• Stay apprised of and external changes that could impact the Program

What you Bring to the Position

The ideal candidate will have the following background or a combination of the following qualifications:

• 3 or more years of management experience
• 3 or more years of experience with one or more of the core advocacy strategies of the organization (legal, policy, organizing)
• Strong management skills, including conflict resolution, facilitating collaboration, and coaching
• A self-starter with initiative and strong project management skills who can manage multiple projects, next steps, and deadlines
• A skilled communicator with excellent writing skills
• A strategic thinker who always keeps the big picture in mind
• Experience developing leadership in others and able to plan for strategy and implementation
• A team player who is curious, creative, flexible, collaborative, and proactive
• Fluency in Spanish preferred

Salary and Benefits

Salary range of $88,000 to $95,000. Comprehensive benefits package includes health, vision, and dental insurance with single coverage paid at 100% by Nebraska Appleseed; 401(k) with a 4% match; and generous paid leave including vacation, sick leave, holidays, and longevity leave.
