What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equine Veterinary Clinic Weekend Barn Caretaker position at Nebraska Equine Veterinary Clinic?
The Weekend Barn Caretaker position has the primary responsibility of maintaining a clean and functional barn environment for hospitalized equine patients. This is a part-time weekend only position with varying workload between our busy (spring/summer) and slow seasons (fall/winter). The ideal candidate must enjoy working with horses and be competent at handling horses in a safe manner. They must be able to work with horses when they are stressed, ill or in pain. They must understand typical or routine equine husbandry, including cleaning stalls, feeding, and watering horses. Pay scale for this position is negotiable based on experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Stall Cleaning, removing manure, urine and dirty shavings from stalls and replenishing with clean shavings
- Follow feeding and watering schedules as instructed
- Cleaning and sanitizing buckets, feed tubs, and barn aisle
- Use a wheel barrow or cart to remove dirty shavings and dispose in designated location
- Restock and transport feed bags, hay, shavings, and other miscellaneous items between barns and stalls
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding clients and patients

Physical Requirements: Must be able to work standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day. Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly, handle fractious horses, lift feedbags and water buckets, and push a full wheelbarrow.
Education/Experience: High School diploma or GED
Language Ability: Proficient in reading and writing in the English language. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure (including metric system), using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Computer Skills: Proficient in basic computer skills.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to visible blood and tissue, occasional toxic chemicals and fumes, and radiation, gas anesthesia, loud noises, and machinery.
Valid Driver's License and Dependable Transportation: Must provide proof of valid driver's license and have dependable transportation to and from the clinic.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
