What are the responsibilities and job description for the Admissions Counselor position at Nebraska State College System?
Nature of Work
The purpose of the Admissions Counselor is to recruit qualified students and to serve as a liaison between Peru State’s external market and the services available through Peru State. The external market includes prospective students of all ages and academic backgrounds. Also included are those who influence a student’s decision to attend Peru State such as high school counselors and teachers, alumni, family, friends, community members, and others. This position will focus on freshman recruitment with an assigned recruitment territory. Work in that territory includes planning and conducting high school visits; meeting with students, parents, and school counselors; representing Peru State at various college/day/night programs; and extensive follow up with prospective students and their families. Follow-up will be done via email, phone calls, virtual appointment (Zoom or Teams) as well as texting. This position will assist with campus visits and on campus recruitment events. Counselors will review student financial aid award letters including scholarship and all forms of financial aid with admitted students and parents.
Examples of Work Performed
Essential Duties:
1. Manage recruitment territory
2. Use CRM to communicate and follow-up with students and counselors in assigned recruitment territory
3. Provides regular reports on recruitment territory funnel including prospects, inquiries, applicants, and enrolled students
4. Analyze impact of scholarship awards in recruitment area
5. Represent the College at college fairs
6. Use a variety of communication modes to connect with students and their families including email, text, phone, handwritten notes or virtual (Zoom or Teams)
7. Initiate contact and follow up with prospective students and their families to understanding the benefits of attending Peru State College assist with the various processes
8. Develop an effective working relationship with high school staff
9. Assist with recruitment activities and programs including campus visit programs and experiences, group visit experiences, orientation and Welcome Week
10. Participate actively in college committee work and campus events
11. Participate in state, regional and national professional associations
12. Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree or work related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
A commitment to serving students and strong interpersonal skills are essential. Exceptional planning and attention to details, problem solving, time management, analytical skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are strongly preferred. Candidates with strong leadership abilities and a desire for increasing professional development will find themselves well suited in this position. Bilingual abilities are a plus. Willingness to travel and work flexible schedule including weekends and evenings as required. This position is non-exempt with regard to FLSA overtime provisions. This position is covered by the NSCPA negotiated agreement.
