What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Marketing and Communications position at Nebraska State College System?
Nature of Work
Under the supervision of the Vice President for Enrollment Management (VPEM), the Director will develop, implement, and evaluate an annual strategic marketing and communications plan in consultation with diverse College stakeholders, with goals that include growing the College’s enrollment, improving student retention, increasing brand awareness and reputation throughout Nebraska and the region, strengthening the College’s relationships with the community, and promoting awareness of opportunities available at the College. They will consult with the senior leadership team on matters affecting the College’s public profile, work with vendors to implement initiatives identified in the strategic marketing plan, and work with the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of Admissions and the Athletic Director to create and deploy marketing initiatives to support recruitment and retention strategies for a growing and diverse student body.
The Director will also regularly research and write news stories and press releases and disseminate them to appropriate media to raise Peru State’s public profile throughout Nebraska and the region, and they will coordinate the production of news stories, event coverage, news releases, newsletters, and various other publications and coverage designed to promote the Peru State brand and positive public relations.
They will supervise the administration of the College’s website, ensuring that it is continually up to date, engaging, and well aligned with the marketing priorities of the College. They will supervise and maintain the College’s social-media presence, ensuring a steady stream of engaging, attractive, and positive messages that align with the College’s marketing priorities. And they will build and maintain strong, positive relationships with key media outlets in the region, to improve the quantity and quality of coverage of Peru State. The Director will also coordinate special events and perform other job-related duties as assigned. Will work with various internal and external constituents.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or related field required. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Thorough knowledge of principles and methods of planning and conducting a comprehensive marketing and public relations program is required, as is a minimum of five years of successful management experience in working and communicating with multiple publics. Must be able to serve as a poised, positive, articulate, and professional institutional spokesperson. Must hold a strong appreciation for the value that diversity, equity, and inclusion bring to a College community and the ability to work positively and collaboratively with people from all backgrounds. Must possess a high level of competency with best practices in strategic marketing, social media marketing and advertising, website design and function, publication design, and related areas. Must be able to work on multiple tasks under deadline pressures with little to no supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred. A high degree of initiative, creativity, energy, and drive is essential, and experience developing strategic marketing plans is strongly preferred.
