Job Overview
We are seeking a Certified Peer Support Specialist to become a part of Needlepoint Sanctuary of Maine's harm reduction program. This role will provide peer support services to Needlepoint Sanctuary program participants and will provide direct one-on-one support related to Needlepoint Sanctuary's Low Threshold Employment Program, an employment program that provides per diem employment to People Who Use Drugs. This position will work closely in collaboration with the program director and other staff to improve the wellbeing of program participants and the success of program outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one peer support to Low Threshold Employment Program employees
- Provide one-on-one peer support to Needlepoint Sanctuary program participants
- Assist participants in connecting with additional supportive services such as case management, counseling, and navigation of medical care.
- Mentor individuals, build relationships, and facilitate engagement of participants with program
- Collaborate with social workers, behavioral health professionals, and other community partners to support participant wellbeing
- Facilitate group sessions focused on harm reduction, peer support, and recovery utilizing an any positive change framework.
- Advocate for participants within various systems, ensuring they have access to necessary services and support. In particular in relation to the navigation of medical systems.
Experience
- Previous experience in a peer support role or similar position is preferred.
- Familiarity with systems related to mental health, substance use treatment, and public health.
- Skills in crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, and mentoring are highly desirable.
- A background in social work or related fields, in particular working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with diverse populations.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development in the areas of mental health and harm reduction.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $30.00 per hour
