Nehemiah Project, Inc. provides services and assistance to help improve the social and psychological functioning of juvenile males in a congregate care setting. We also strive to maximize the overall individual/family well-being and the youth’s academic functioning.
An energetic, professional and resilient person is needed to help provide care for up to 8 male youth, ages 13-20, in a 24-hour transitional care facility. Ability to work well as a team member in a fast-paced environment and provide quality care for youth and their families. The ideal candidate will have great strength in working with adjudicated males, have excellent written and verbal skills and 3 years of experience working directly with the type of youth we serve.

Essential Duties and/or Responsibilities:
- Counsel male youth regarding issues including mental health, employment, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment and independent living.
- Serve as liaisons between students, homes, schools, family services, child guidance clinics, courts, protective services, doctors, and other contacts.
- Maintain daily case management logs, case history records and other such reports as necessary.
- Assist house manager(s) in referring clients to community resources for services such as job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, medical treatment, or financial assistance, and provide concrete information, such as where to go and how to apply.
- As needed, consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems such as truancy and misbehavior, and to implement solutions.
- Counsel students whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical impairment indicate a need for assistance.
- As needed, collect supplementary information needed to assist client, such as employment records, medical records, school reports and/or vital records.
- Oversee the residents and maintain knowledge of whereabouts and activities.
- Light meal preparation, as needed
- Light domestic duties, as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Experience and Education:
- The ideal candidate will have great strength in working with adjudicated youth, have excellent written and verbal skills
- At least 3 years of experience working directly with the youth we serve
- Group facilitation skills
- Excellent de-escalation techniques
- Experience in transitional living facilities preferred
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and effective disorders.
- Customer and Personal Service
- Excellent judgement and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and to prioritize duties
- Knowledge of the juvenile justice system and court preferred
- Problem Solving, conflict resolution and other training desirable
- Experience in youth employment training programs desirable'
