Title: Network Technician
Location: Bronx, New York
FLSA Classification: Full-time (35 hours), Exempt
Role Summary: The successful candidate will provide network support, monitoring and maintenance. They will also provide technical assistance and training to end users by providing support and technical issue resolution in person, via E-Mail, phone or remotely. He/She will be required to develop solutions for network, desktop, and server problems. He/She will analyze existing systems and make recommendations for improvements to the IT Director.
Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Perform network support including conducting daily administrative duties, supporting maintenances, and perform monitoring of all network infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Cisco switches, firewalls and other standard networking equipment.
- Familiarity with local and wide-area networking.
- Create and maintain documentation of the environment and operational procedures.
- Understanding of IP based networks and security.
- Maintain a through understanding of networking basics and it’s working (DNS, IP routing, internet technologies, HTTP, email routing protocols, NAT, along with network security, firewalls and VPN).
- Configure and setup Cisco Firewalls, Switches, Site to Site VPN’s, and security applications.
- Generally, perform troubleshooting and initial triage of issues.
- React quickly, efficiently and effectively to alarms received for supported infrastructure.
- Document system problems, escalate and take appropriate actions according to departmental procedures.
- Must ensure issues are updated.
- Ability to analyze raw data and reports to provide management with a coherent picture of call trends and outage trends.
- Ability to speak to our staff and vendors in professional manner to gather additional details of their issue during an outage situation and/or confirm resolution. Also, guide staff through established troubleshooting procedures to identify and resolve their individual issue.
- Responding to inquiries from staff to provide technical assistance and support.
- Troubleshooting malfunctions of network hardware and software applications, telephones and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services.
- Evaluate existing systems and/or user needs to analyze, design, recommend, and implement the system changes.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to travel to multiple NYC sites as needed.
Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:
- Office setting with regular exposure to computer screens and moderate noise levels.
- May be required to work shifts, including evenings or night tours and/or Saturdays, Sundays and holidays with holiday pay differential.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related degree or 2 years of work related experience
- Experience in network alarm monitoring, cisco routers, switches, DHCP, TCP/IP, VPN.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and efficient.
- Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
- Must pass drug screening to be appointed.
- This position may be subject to a series of investigations before and after appointment.

- Professional experience(s), whether paid or unpaid, and including volunteer work.
