Overview
Neighborhood Defender Service has branched out NDS Hays County, a nonprofit, client-centered, collaborative, holistic public defense office to provide criminal defense representation and related services to residents of Hays County, Texas. The office opened in January 2023 in San Marcos, TX.
Clients are represented by teams composed of lawyers, investigators, social workers, client advocates, and team administrators. NDS adheres to a client-centered approach to representation that emphasizes a heightened responsiveness to clients' needs prior to arrest, while a case is pending, and after the case concludes.

Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Embrace NDS' philosophy of client-centered, community-based, holistic representation and commitment to excellence.
- Answer and direct phone calls in a polite and friendly manner.
- Ensure phone calls are redirected accordingly.
- Greet guests in a professional, friendly, and hospitable manner.
- Open and close visitor area
- Create and draft memos, correspondence, reports, and other documents as requested.
- Create SB7 Letters for clients in accordance with state law compliance.
- Maintain reception area and all common areas in a clean and orderly manner. Secure areas when closing.
- Operate standard office equipment on a regular basis, including a fax machine, a copier machine, postage machine, and a computer.
- Take inventory of and order all office supplies. Ensures that proper documentation is created when ordering supplies.
- Maintain and update the Staff Directory.
- Keep detailed and accurate records of visitor requests and of calls received.
- Receive deliveries; sort and distribute incoming mail.
- Maintain schedule of common area usage (conference rooms, collaboration rooms, discovery rooms, etc.)
- Assist in providing general clerical support to team as needed.
- Provide backup responsibilities for Team Administrator.
- Assist in distribution of client supportive services.
- Make travel arrangements for staff members, including flights, hotels, and car rentals.
- Conduct research on subject matters through internet searches and compile data to be presented.
- When needed, provide Spanish / English interpretation for non-Spanish speaking staff members.
- This is an in-person position. Required to be in office.
