Position: Controller

Status: Exempt

Location: 1849 Civic Center Drive, North Las Vegas, NV. 89030


Primary Function: The Controller will oversee all financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and maintaining the integrity of financial reporting. This position is responsible for financial planning, budgeting, auditing, and developing and implementing financial policies and procedures.


Specific Responsibilities

Oversee the organization’s financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, and reporting.

Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports to provide insights into the organization’s financial health.

Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with department leaders.

Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates to the leadership team monthly, quarterly and as needed.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding financial practices.

Coordinate the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.

Oversee monthly accounts payable and receivable, as well as payroll and general ledger functions.

Ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions and maintain financial records.

Develop, implement and update financial policies and procedures to ensure effective internal controls.

Train staff on financial procedures and best practices.

Oversee financial reporting for grants and ensure compliance with donor requirements.

Work with program managers to prepare grant budgets and financial reports.

Supervise and mentor finance staff, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.

Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills.

  1. Knowledge of government-funded program guidelines at the state and federal levels to include grant management on privately funded grants/donations
  2. Provide guidance and mentorship to Jr. Accounting staff, ensuring work quality and adherence to deadlines.
  3. Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
  4. Prepare financial forecasts and cash flow projections.
  5. Work with the C-suite to manage the investment of available funds in accordance with the NHSSN Investment Policy and oversee the management of working capital credit lines.
  6. Works with C-suite and departmental leaders to establish and prioritize monthly, quarterly, and annual production goals and budgets, including annual work plans for all departments.
  7. Ensure adherence to and integrity of accounting policies, procedures, and processes.
  8. Ability to travel out of town and state for training opportunities, as needed.
  9. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Executive team.


Minimum Qualifications / Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.

Minimum of (3) three years of experience in nonprofit accounting or finance.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial management practices.

  • Must have experience managing multiple legal entities, including Series LLCs, as well as multiple bank and QuickBooks accounts.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible in meeting various accounting and reporting needs
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be committed to professional growth and development.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proficient in working with QuickBooks, Microsoft applications, and data management and reporting software systems.


Licenses / Required Certifications:

A valid Nevada driver's license.

Requires completion and certification of NeighborWorks Training Institute classes listed in the order or priority (must be complete within three years):

Must attend the annual Strength Matters conference with NeighborWorks.

For a licensed CPA, he/she must adhere to the CPA/CPE requirements of the State Board of Accountancy.


Work Direction: Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer


Physical Effort: Requires the ability to exert some physical effort, such as walking, standing, and light lifting; the minimal skill of using fingers, limbs, and body to operate office equipment. It may require extended periods of standing or at a computer terminal.


Office Hours: 7:00 am – 5:30 pm with a half-hour lunch break. Monday – Thursday. Full Time. 40 hours per week. May require some nights and evenings or weekends to attend community events for specific projects or reporting requirements.


Salary Range: $98k - $111k Annually


Benefits:

  1. Medical coverage is paid for the employee. Family coverage available – paid by the employee.
  2. $25,000 Term Life Insurance Policy paid for the employee.
  3. One week or 40 hours of paid sick leave per year. (no carry over)
  4. One week or 40 hours of paid vacation leave per year. (one week carry over allowed) -Additional vacation leave based on years of employment.
  5. Paid training for NeighborWorks Training Institute, as required or assigned.
  6. Ten paid holidays per year.
