Assistant After-school Program Director - COMPASS Elementary

The Assistant Program Director is responsible for assisting in oversight of a school-based afterschool program. They provide leadership, direction, supervision, and support to program staff along-side the Director to ensure desired program goals and outcomes are met. They represent NIDC to the whole school community. The Assistant Program Director reports to and will work with their Director, as well as other team members to create a dynamic after-school program that includes academic enrichment, social / emotional activities, project-based learning, arts, sports, and leadership activities.

Duties and Responsibilities, in concert with NIDC Youth Department Staff :

  • Supervise all aspects of a school-based after-school program
  • Ensure that the program operates in compliance with all DOH safety and funder regulations and meets all contractual obligations, specifically in the area of enrollment and rate of participation
  • Report all incidents and accident reports to all relevant parties promptly and submit all documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Planning of program activities and schedules for afterschool programs, holidays, and summer camp
  • Manage daily operations and coordinate with the school’s administration, teachers, secretaries, and custodial staff as needed
  • Ensure program logistics, such as schedules, lesson plan collection, snack and space reservations, trips, supply requests, and programmatic needs are met.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders (participants, parents, school staff and administration, funders, and the community working collaboratively with other NIDC departments)
  • Privy to all databases and other systems required by NIDC and / or funders
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance data and meet deadlines for data entry into databases as needed or tasked
  • Assist in the interviewing, managing, training, and coaching of program staff and volunteers and documenting these efforts
  • Conduct classroom observations; assess and evaluate staff on a consistent basis and address concerns as they arise
  • Review lesson plans weekly; support the development of curriculum maps and activity plans
  • Ensure program content supports initiative goals and outcomes
  • Participate in school leadership committees and PTA meetings, as well as other organizational development processes, workshops, and trainings including developing new programmatic initiatives

Qualifications and Requirements :

  • Work towards a Bachelor’s degree related to elementary education or youth development
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience working with children in an educational, or SACC-licensed setting is preferred
  • At least two years-experience supervising staff and managing programs is preferred and should host strong leadership, conflict-resolution and diplomacy skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite, email correspondence, and database management is required
  • Familiarity with NY State Standards, including OCFS and DOH regulations
  • Must be available to work Monday through Friday, between the hours of 12pm and 6 : 00 pm
  • Must take part in 30 hours of professional development opportunities per year and be available for some program or organization events outside of regular business hours
