Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician I position is an entry-level role responsible for accurately logging samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), sample preservation and storage, basic analysis of environmental samples in accordance with published analytical methods, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and EPA protocols. Responsibilities include execution of quality control procedures and precise documentation of results. Working under the supervision of senior staff, the Laboratory Technician I ensures all analyses comply with laboratory protocols, safety standards, and client requirements. This role requires strong attention to detail, fundamental knowledge of chemistry techniques, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to producing accurate results. This position is responsible for working independently one to two days a week in the Grants Pass satellite office.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Login
- Log samples into the LIMS according to the Chain of Custody, NRC requirements, and client specific requirements.
Sample Preservation and Storage
- Verify sample preservation or preserve samples in accordance with NRC SOPs.
- Ensure samples are stored according to NRC SOPs.
Sample Preparation and Analysis
- Perform sample analysis according to NRC SOPs.
- Prepare reagents and standards and document in the LIMS.
Quality Control and Compliance
- Understand quality control requirements and sample batching.
- Owns and acts on quality problems.
Data Management
- Prepare sample batches in the LIMS.
- Report sample analysis in the LIMS.
Communication
- Maintain regular communication with supervisors and team members.
- Communicate with laboratory and project management staff regarding short holding times, rush analysis, or unique circumstances.
Laboratory Hygiene
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment for you and your coworkers by following all laboratory protocols and regulations.
Supplies
- Monitor lab supplies and inventory to ensure continuous operation.

Qualifications and Education
Minimum High School Diploma. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related field is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to multi-task.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Analytical and numerical skills: proficiency in performing mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, across various units of measurement. Capability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios effectively.
Minimum Experience
Entry-level.
Language Skills
Must be able to read, write, and speak proficiently in English without an interpreter. Ability to read and comprehend company policies and SOPs.
