What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Scientist - Analytical Chemistry position at Nelson Labs?
The Principal Scientist guides the scientific direction of the Extractables and Leachables (E&L) business unit in Salt Lake City. They are expected to work with the Nelson - Salt Lake leadership and the Nelson Labs Europe Center of Excellence (Leuven, Belgium) to implement scientific improvements in the E&L space. They also mentor and develop SMEs across the organization and represent Nelson Labs with clients and in the world-wide E&L community.
This position is based at Nelson Lab's Headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is primarily an onsite role, with the possibility of limited remote work once per week following the initial ramp-up period.

Education And Skills Required
- M.S. or Ph.D in the applicable science; Chemistry or similar
- 7 years combined laboratory, regulatory, or lead experience in extractables and leachables
- 3 years working in the medical device industry
- Understands theory and of key analytical method used in E&L testing
- Headspace gas chromatography
- Liquid injection gas chromatography
- Liquid chromatography required
- Mass Spectral Interpretation
Science Expertise
- Sets scientific standards in E&L testing
- Directs new test method development and innovation of current test methods
- Represent Nelson Labs as the scientific expert within the industry; participating in seminars and trade shows as needed
- Be a technical resource to all laboratories across the Nelson Labs network
- Coordinates the completion of gap assessments for published standards
- Consult with clients on technical matters
- Collaborate with technical consultants and lab management on projects
- Support the Senior Scientists and others in the technical oversight of protocols
- Serve as the point of contact for communication and information dissemination
- Be a mentor to other facilities on the Nelson Labs systems and processes
- May travel to lab facilities to assess technical excellence and to observe best practices
