Overview

The Senior Litigation Docketing Specialist will be a member of the Litigation Docketing Department and works under the supervision of the Litigation Docketing Manager. The Senior Specialist will work closely with attorneys and legal staff to provide thorough and accurate litigation calendaring services for all federal, state, and agency matters. Responsibilities include independently reviewing court documents, legal correspondence, and case team requests and entering deadlines into the firm’s rules-based calendaring software, CompuLaw Vision. The Senior Specialist will be responsible for providing quality review and training to the Litigation Docketing Specialists. The Senior Specialist will follow all firm docketing procedures as well as department protocols, best practices, and workflows. A successful candidate will bring 5-7 years’ experience, have extensive legal research skills, as well as high-level understanding of the nuances and interplay between federal, state, local, and judge’s individual practices and procedures. The Senior Specialist will assist in the department’s mission of delivering best in class service to clients and mitigating risk to the firm.

A Day in the Life

The responsibilities of this role include ndependently calendaring firm litigation matters with minimal direct supervision and a high degree of efficiency and accuracy. Respond to requests from attorneys and legal staff regarding deadlines and court rules. Conduct jurisdictional research and provide comprehensive summaries to case teams. Ensure assigned calendaring is accurate and completed in a timely manner. Quality review and audit Litigation Docketing Specialists’ work product, providing mentorship and inter-department training. Create and circulate reports to case teams for review and confirmation of deadlines. Maintain policies and protocols to ensure the accurate entry of deadlines and docket entries into CompuLaw Vision. Assist with drafting department materials, including best practices, manuals, training videos, and intranet online content. Assist with new hire orientations, including training on the calendaring system and department policies and procedures. Assist the Litigation Docketing Manager in conducting firm-wide training programs on the calendaring software and department processes and workflows. Provide suggestions to the Litigation Docketing Manager to help improve department procedures and workflow. Stay well informed of developments, procedures, and rules in the forums where the firm practices, as well as general state and federal practices. Assist in promoting and advancing department objectives and goals. Own additional responsibilities as assigned.

We Know You

A degree from an accredited college or university, a paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience/education is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of docketing experience in a law firm setting. Extensive knowledge of the litigation lifecycle, legal procedures, terminology, and court rules in both federal and state courts is essential. Proven experience in computing deadlines in both federal and state court jurisdictions is also required. Substantial experience with rules-based calendaring software, particularly CompuLaw Vision, is preferred, while experience with Milana is helpful. Strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to summarize requested information and conduct thorough research are necessary. The role demands strong organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced environment. A strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the desire to take initiative and own tasks and responsibilities are crucial. Excellent communication and people skills, along with a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy, are required. The ability to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines and adapt to a fluid and ever-changing work environment is essential. The candidate must be service-oriented and able to work collaboratively in a team setting. Strong proficiency in MS Office is preferred, and the ability to work overtime when required is necessary.

 

At Nelson Mullins, we are dedicated to transparent and fair compensation practices. Pay for this position is determined by factors such as experience, skills, and location.

  • Salary/Wage Range: $95,000 - $115,000 annually. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for merit-based raises and benefits such as healthcare, retirement plans, and paid time off.
