This is an hourly non-exempt position reporting to the Melt Supervisor/Manager. This position is responsible to operate the melt laboratory as well as to perform any needed sample preparation, maintenance required on the different laboratory equipment, release molten aluminum to the DCM shop floor according to the quality standards and ensuring to commit all the customer specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform the critical molten aluminum quality tests.
- Thermal Analysis
- Reduce Pressure Test
- K-Mold Analysis
- Tatur Test
- Spiral Test
- Chemical composition
- Carry out the metallurgical sample preparation for their subsequent analysis and interpretation under a microscope
- Responsible for calibration dates of the different equipment
- Qualify the liquid metal release to production and new supplier material.
- Make the release reports and notify the supervisor for any deviation.
- Manage the sample traceability system
- responsible for the different laboratory equipment maintenance and Lab 5S
- Capability studies to ensure consistency
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum requirements (training, experience, education):
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Strong knowledge with quality standards and specifications interpretation
- Experience in metallurgical sample preparation, laboratory equipment usage and calibration dates monitoring
- Must understand some trials are with molten aluminum
- Previous experience in audit, melt or process technician
