The Billing Specialist for the Business Office serves as the primary point of contact for all in-house facility and outside facility registration of patient demographics and insurance information and verification. This position performs the assigned essential functions accurately and timely as well as provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

The Billing Specialist for the Business Office serves as the primary point of contact for all in-house facility and outside facility registration of patient demographics and insurance information and verification. This position performs the assigned essential functions accurately and timely as well as provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Register off-site inpatient and outpatient demographics as assigned by accurately entering patient demographic, guarantor and coverage information into the Professional Billing computer package.
- Work well with DAG team to obtain necessary coverage and/or authorizations.
- Run reports and pull data from partner facility for any patients receiving services outside of clinic.
- Data entry of charges into the Professional Billing computer package as assigned following Charge entry workflow and Standard Business Practice for Reconciliation of Charge Batches.
- Prepare claims accurately by adhering to all CMS and specific insurance guidelines.
- Work assigned work queues correcting all errors and warnings as appropriate.
- Provide feedback as appropriate regarding billing education or issues.
- Interact with coworkers and clinic staff in a productive and cooperative manner.
- Keep abreast of all insurance and system changes/updates.
- High School Diploma required.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in billing, preferably in a physician’s office/hospital or with a health insurance company.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Proficient in health insurance knowledge including benefit verification and understanding of plan requirements for accurate claim filing.
- Excellent computer skills and ability to navigate the Internet.
- Demonstrate ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities.
- Demonstrate positive attitude and ability to get along with others.
- Excellent attendance and reliability to effectively complete all duties in a timely manner.
