Position Summary Information
Summary
The Dean of Students at NEOMED is a key member of the Provost’s Senior Academic Leadership Team, overseeing Student Services and Academic Affairs. This role will ensure a student-centered environment, manage daily operations, and lead strategic initiatives to enhance the student experience. Responsibilities include data-driven improvements, advocacy for student resources, and coordination of services supporting student success from matriculation to graduation. The role also involves anticipating higher education trends, addressing challenges, and managing programs related to student records, advising, accessibility, assessment, wellness, conduct, leadership, and Commencement coordination. The position emphasizes innovation, strategic planning, and operational excellence to enhance the overall student experience at NEOMED.
Principal Functional Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision: Provide leadership and supervision of Student Services and Academic Affairs including student program and course registration, student advising and support, student organizations and activities, testing and assessment, library and related technologies, orientations, student wellness, writing and SLL services, student insurance and credentialing and student conduct. Ensure operating efficiency and effectiveness and instills and promotes a strategic approach to creating a culture of service and a commitment to quality.
Serve and participate on the Provost’s Senior Academic Leadership Team meetings to advise the Provost on pertinent and salient academic and student issues and concerns, working closely to develop solutions and achieve university priorities.
Operational Management: Develop, monitor, and adjust an annual budget of appropriated and non-appropriated funds for Student Services and Academic Affairs services, linked to the strategic plans of the University and Colleges. Direct and manage all hands-on operational aspects of Student Services and Academic Affairs services to ensure that the proper operational controls, administrative procedures, financial processes and systems are in place to effectively serve the University and its students.
Student Engagement and Development: Lead the university-wide strategic efforts toward achieving an “Exceptional Student Experience” through data collection and analysis, creation and achievement of data-driven objectives to improve students’ experience, and ongoing advocacy for ESE resources, data, and advocacy. Serve as a University resource for the continued development of a student-centered environment. Provide leadership, communication and background on emerging issues and strategic initiatives related to students and evaluate and propose recommendations leading to solutions to the Provost and Senior VPAA and College Deans. Utilize data through assessment and evaluation to support decision making within Student Services.
Policy and Compliance: Identify, direct, and manage University processes, policies, publications and projects to improve and increase student success and student satisfaction, including components of the Committees on Academic and Professional Progress (CAPP), student conduct processes, White Coat and Commencement Ceremonies, etc. Create and communicate a student-centered point of view to assist with the decision-making of University executives, colleagues and other key personnel. Engage with key constituent groups to collaborate and coordinate while balancing the delivery of University educational programs against the realities of a budget and other constraints.
Manage high-risk functions including serving as the University Conduct Officer and overseeing Title IX, Inclusion and Engagement to support marginalized students, Global Engagement inclusive of international travel management, drug testing and criminal background check compliance.

Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in education-related field of study.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive administrative experience in student and academic affairs with varied and increasing responsibilities, to include a minimum of five years as a Dean or Associate Dean of Students in another institution of higher education.
- Prior experience with student services and systems in a complex higher education organization, including strategic development and planning, policy development, student advocacy, and budgeting.
- Experience in working effectively as part of a team characterized by trust, open communication, and shared goals; setting the tone for institutional integrity, transparency, and openness; and building a customer service culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree.
- Prior experience with students in health professions higher education programs.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment.
Department Specific Information
Starting Salary Range: $132,935 – $165,950, commensurate with experience.
