A small, fast-paced manufacturing company in the Plymouth/Kingston area seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with the Controller and leadership team to ensure accurate financial transactions and reporting.
Position Overview
Under direct to general supervision, the Staff Accountant supports daily and monthly accounting activities, including processing invoices, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, flexible, and eager to take ownership of the company’s core financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable & Invoicing: Accurately code invoices to general ledger accounts, ensure proper documentation, and process checks
- Financial Statements: Assist with monthly close activities, including creating ad hoc financial reports, analytics, and explanatory schedules
- Budget-to-Actual Analysis: Investigate and explain variances, providing insights into current vs. prior year changes
- General Ledger Maintenance: Prepare recurring financial transactions, review intercompany activities, and reconcile sub-ledger accounts
- Account Reconciliations: Complete and maintain thorough supporting documentation for account balances
- Month-End Close: Record and post journal entries (e.g., cash transactions, revenue, payroll, accruals, expense reports) to ensure a timely and accurate close
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Experience: 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, with solid understanding of GAAP
- Technical Skills:
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
- Proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
- Familiarity with standard account analysis techniques and budgeting processes
- Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently
- Effective problem-solving approach, with attention to detail
