POSITION:
Instructional Assistant 8:45-11:45AM (3.25 Hours/Day)
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Principal (or designee), assists a certificated teacher with classroom responsibilities; and, if assigned, to perform noon/yard/hall duty, food service duties, on-campus retention(OCR), on-campus suspension and any other education program responsibilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Adhere to all applicable laws, rules and regulations of the state, county, and the Nevada City School
District.
- May assist with standardized testing associated with regular education district-wide assessments under the direction of certificated staff, completing information on score sheets, monitoring tests, recording scores in cumulative folders, and administering make-up tests.
- Assists teacher in instructing individuals and/or small groups of students in various learning situations including basic academic subject areas; tutor students as assigned.
- Provides teacher(s) and/or school administrators with relevant feedback and information on students’ progress through observation, daily contact, and maintaining accurate student records.
- Prepares materials for use in instructional activities.
- Assists with special classroom projects and field trips.
- Assists with classroom clerical and record-keeping activities, including cumulative folder update, verifying absences, typing or duplicating materials and correcting papers and tests.
- Uses good judgment in handling behavioral problems, and refer as necessary.
- May instruct parent volunteers regarding daily duties.
- Serve as a sounding board for new ideas and ways of dealing with individuals and their needs.
- In case of an emergency, may assume sole responsibility of the class for short periods of time.
- Maintain a sincere friendly attitude towards fellow employees, students, parents, and the public.
- Maintains confidentiality of information regarding students.
- The primary function of instructional aide to is to assist certificated teachers and may be assigned other duties as necessary following is a list of examples of duties: o Prepares and serves snacks and meals. o Follows district established food safety protocols. o Supervises activity on playgrounds, including maintaining order which may include settling arguments, establishing rules, deciding whether or not to send a child to the nurse. o Uses good judgment in handling behavioral problems, and refers students to the office and/or nurse as necessary. o Supervises hallways, bathrooms and cafeteria area. o Ensures the safety of students and parents while crossing at designated pathways. Observes, intervenes and reports any unsafe or suspicious behavior in or around these areas.
- Shall not assume the total instructional responsibility for students in any subject.
- Shall not grade papers which require subjective evaluation by teacher.
- Shall not determine grades or comments on report cards.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associates degree or 48 units preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must successfully pass live scan background check and T.B. clearance.
- Must pass a proficiency test administered by the district.
- Position requires moderate physical exertion associated with the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, crawl, or climb.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds (lbs.) maximum or carry any object weighting 25 lbs.
- Complete required mandated trainings.
- Must successfully pass CPR and First Aid Training
