Nevada City School of the Arts (NCSOTA), a TK-8 charter school in operation since 1994, is seeking a dynamic, culturally aware, stimulating, and highly qualified teacher to join our paraprofessional school team.

JOB TITLE : PARAPROFESSIONAL & AFTER-SCHOOL CAREGIVER

SCHEDULE : 2024-25 School Year - Full-time

WAGE : $ 17.65 - $2 5.17 per hour, depending on experience

SUMMARY : The Nevada City School of the Arts (NCSOTA) Paraprofessional assists students with special needs under the direction of a certificated teacher and resource specialist.

Paraprofessionals generally work in an inclusionary setting (i.e., one-to-one environment). The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, help special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships.

The After-School Caregiver will assist the Afterschool Care Director with the implementation of a quality program that enriches the students academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.

The After-School Caregiver will maintain a safe and educational learning environment for young children by successfully overseeing daily program activities.

Daily expectations include : leading children in table activities, supervising snack and outdoor play, assisting children with day to day needs, maintaining a clean environment, leading group activities, and teaching the programs that are created by the Afterschool Care Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in individual instruction and recording of results in basic academics, communication skills, vocational skills and self-help skills according to a specifically prescribed program identified in the pupil's IEP
  • Provides one-to-one tutoring and small group instruction and plan lessons for small groups and organizing materials
  • Supports the school's academic program by assisting students where needed
  • Monitors and supports individual students with disabilities
  • Monitors and supervises students within a variety of school environments (e.g., classroom, playground, restrooms, music / dance room) for the purpose of providing academic instruction, and the safety and welfare of the students
  • Reports observations and incidents of student behavior requiring disciplinary measures to the special education case managers, teachers and the School Director
  • Confers with teachers, and / or other school personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and the implementation of student objectives
  • Supports and prepares lesson plans, student projects and homework assignments and correct student work when completed
  • Participates in staff meetings, SST's or IEP's if requested and as needed
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
  • Agrees to specific work-related training
  • Completes mandatory training (video & in-person) within 6 weeks of employment and every year thereafter.
  • Performs conflict resolution using talk it outs, etc.
  • Abides by all personnel policies and procedures adopted by NCSOTA and the At-Will Agreement
  • Works with the Afterschool Care Director to ensure that the after school program remains consistent with school philosophy
  • Works with the Afterschool Care Director to create an atmosphere of high expectations for student behavior and responsibility
  • Adheres to the School Compact in interpersonal relationships with students, families and staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE

  • AA degree required or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years working with children in a school setting, preferably with special education emphasis
  • Qualified individual displays great patience and understanding while working with children

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Indoor / outdoor work environment
  • Driving a vehicle to conduct work

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

These requirements must be met prior to beginning employment and will be requested upon job offer acceptance.

  • Fingerprint and Background clearance
  • Valid Tuberculosis clearance and every four years thereafter
  • CPR / First Aid Certification within 45 days of employment and every two years thereafter
  • Evidence of Automobile Insurance and valid California Driver's License
  • Emotional demands : Great reserves of patience, tolerance, flexibility and dedication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (with or without reasonable accommodations)

  • Mobility to sit on the floor, bend, reach, squat and otherwise interact with small children
  • Occasional lifting and carrying (maximum 40 lbs.), infrequent pushing and pulling
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information
