The Position

Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR), protects, manages, and enhances the State's resources to provide the highest quality of life for Nevada's citizens and visitors. The NDCNR with over 900 employees consists of the Director's Office and the following divisions and programs: Environmental Protection, Forestry, State Lands, State Parks, Water Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Heritage, State Historic Preservation Office, Off-Highway Vehicles, Sagebrush Ecosystem, and the Conservation Districts Program. The Department also provides support staff to the Nevada Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and has responsibility for numerous Boards, Commissions, and Councils. The Department has locations and/or provides program services in every community of the State.


This position is with the Nevada Division of State Lands located in the Carson City office. This position conducts agency clerical and fiscal activities consistent with agency internal controls and policies and procedures. They are responsible for preparing and mailing all monthly billings for State Lands' fees and prepares monthly accounts receivable and aged accounts reports, sending past due invoices monthly or as necessary. This position processes agency travel claims for reimbursement, ensuring accuracy of calculations and entering all payments into the agency's Internal Budget Tracking. This position is responsible for some agency accounting functions including creating, preparing, and approving up to the PEND3 level all Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable documents including but not limited to invoices, Payment Vouchers, Journal Vouchers, and Cash Receipts. The position also logs, codes and sends approved monthly Motor Pool to Admin Services. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:


Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) 

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.


Special Notes 

This position has a 25% travel requirement.


Special Requirements

This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.


Additional Position Criteria   

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
