Site Steward Position Description
Full Time (40 hours/week) Seasonal 4-month
This is a Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) position that will be stationed at the California Trail Interpretive Center (CTIC) in Elko, Nevada. Work will be performed for and at CTIC. Outlined below are the responsibilities of the Site Steward as well as desired skills, experience, and rate of pay.
Mission of Nevada Outdoor School: Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) inspires exploration of the natural world, responsible stewardship of our habitat and dedication to community.
Mission of the California Trail Center: The California Trail Interpretive Center (CTIC) interprets the California Trail experience, its related themes, and provides educational and cultural enrichment to the general public. Through interpretation, the Trail Center will contribute to the appreciation and preservation of historic and cultural sites and, by forging strong community partnerships, enhance sustainable tourism in the region.
Full-time/Seasonal (700 hours) – summer months: Start date 5/1-15; End date 8/28-9/11 (17 weeks in total). Start and end dates are negotiable. Rate: $18.00 per hour
Description - This position is responsible for managing the overall outdoor aesthetics of the California Trail Center, a Bureau of Land Management site run in partnership with the Nevada Outdoor School. Duties will focus on site and trail maintenance, invasive species management, maintaining outdoor signage and kiosks, and general support of volunteer, stewardship and maintenance projects.

Duties
· Coordinate invasive plant management and removal
· Maintain signage and outdoor safety
· Manage outdoor aesthetics – mow grass, clean windows, painting projects, general repairs, empty outdoor trash cans, remove leaves/debris, pressure wash sidewalks, etc.
· Support (with BLM Staff) volunteer groups such as Battle Born Youth Academy in outdoor projects – weed eradication, trail maintenance, etc.
· Maintain trails and recommends improvements, new sites, etc.
· Maintain grounds equipment; (Once proficient) Train staff on the use and care of equipment
· Work with Trails Days Coordinator to plan out outdoor set-up and tear-down logistics
· Maintains and recommends improvements to wikiup village, wagons, etc.
· Tracks and recommends outdoor improvements
· Supports staff in outdoor programs and overall improvements
· Maintains a safe and healthy work environment
· General support of programs, maintenance and safety at CTIC
