Job Description:
An Intervention Instructional Assistant has the primary responsibility of conducting instructional activities in the field of early literacy development. The ideal candidate will be familiar with current instructional practices in teaching reading, such as phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, language and reading comprehension, and academic language development.
Skills & Abilities:
- Clearly and effectively speak, read, and write English and Spanish.
- Demonstrate accurate judgment in providing a quality educational experience for students and their families.
- Experience and ability to work with under-resourced communities, Latino and English Learner students.
- Demonstrate evidence of effective classroom and general communication skills, both written and oral
- Communicate specialized information related to literacy to students who have varying levels of comprehension.
- Motivate and encourage positive learning patterns and behaviors.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Computer literate and familiar with Google Drive
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Reading & Literacy Specialist in administering foundational literacy skill assessments and/or diagnostic assessments.
- In collaboration with the Intervention team, reviewing literacy assessment data and recommending and designing practice activities.
- Provide intervention and/or tutoring for individual students or small groups in reading and literacy.
- Providing action feedback to students through conferring with students during small group instruction.
- Assist with planning and implementing literacy-related events such as but not limited to book fairs, literacy nights, library visits, etc.
- Support school-wide reading initiatives by setting up bulletin boards in the classrooms and/or hallways.
- Periodically participate in professional development sessions in person, via Zoom, or off site.
- Provide daily playground supervision
- Enforcing school safety policies
- Write and submit incident/accident reports to appropriate staff
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bi-lingual (Spanish & English) preferred.
- Clearance with the Department of Justice via live scan
- Proof and clearance of TB test (current within 60 days)
- 2-3 years of experience in a school classroom setting preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.99 - $24.72 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
