Job Description
TITLE: Cosmetology Instructor
CLASSIFICATION: Certified
LOCATION: Prosser Career Education Center
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of three years of experience in Cosmetology and eligible for a workplace specialist license
- Valid Cosmetology Practitioner's License
- Valid Cosmetology Instructor’s certification from Indiana State Board of Cosmetology
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach all Indiana Department of Education standards for Cosmetology.
- Planning and preparing the course curriculum and lesson plans.
- Teaching students a range of cosmetology courses that includes hair and makeup techniques, skin care, and nail technology.
- Ensuring safe handling of chemicals and other equipment during practical sessions.
- Be responsible for the maintenance of teaching materials, supplies, equipment, and facilities as necessary for the instructional program.
- Developing written and practical assessment tests.
- Reviewing and grading students on the basis of the test results.
- Overseeing the performance of students during practical sessions.
- Submitting course feedback to the institute.
- Staying up-to-date with the new techniques and technology in cosmetology.
- Offering improvement suggestions during course preparations.
- Ensuring adherence to the course budget.
- Familiarity with the latest trends in the beauty industry.
- Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and current educational practices; utilizes varied instructional strategies and activities.
- Establishes, communicates and encourages high standards of student performance
- Monitors, assesses, and provides appropriate feedback of student performance and progress.
- Keeps attendance reports.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Performs non-instructional duties affecting the school program.
- Participates in professional development activities; Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
- Administers tests to evaluate student’s progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
- Maintains discipline in the classroom, school building and school grounds.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal and/or other designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
Job Requirements
- At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
- High School/Trade School degree preferred.
