TITLE : Facilities Custodial and Staffing Manager

CLASSIFICATION : Salaried (Exempt) / 260 Days per year

SALARY RANGE : $60,000 to $70,000 (Based on education and experience)

LOCATION / DEPT : Facilities Department

REPORTS TO : Director of Facilities

Summary : Provides leadership and supervision for district custodial and night maintenance support, ensures that best custodial practices are followed, evaluates custodial service performance, and prepares reports. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations; works with building administrators, custodians, facilities / project manager, and our building security and energy manager.

Qualifications :

  • 1-2 years related experience required in the area of custodial and / or facilities operations management or related field.
  • Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.
  • Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly
  • Planning / Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities. Follows policies and procedures; Completes tasks correctly and on time.
  • Professionalism - Maintains confidentiality. Reacts well under pressure; Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; Accepts responsibility for own actions; Follows through on commitments.
  • Ability to use and instruct others in the use of machines, tools, equipment, and work aids (including computers and calculators) which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with custodial work.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks in a fast-paced changing environment with many interruptions in an open office environment
  • Effective communication skills- oral and written including group presentation skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, and Microsoft Suite of applications
  • Accounting skills essential to maintain accurate records and files.
  • Valid Driver's license and acceptable driving history required due to job driving requirements.

Responsibilities :

  • Supervises all-custodial staff by assigning work and job responsibilities.
  • In conjunction with the custodial vendor monitors and ensures that job responsibilities for all custodial personnel are completed and in accordance with agreed upon specifications.
  • Instructs : direct reports, including Building Supervisors, Building Operators, and Event operators in the proper and safe use and care of equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare and instruct standard procedures of custodial tasks to staff. This may include but not limited to Building Supervisors, Building Operators, Event Operators, and vendor custodial staff.
  • Develop and implement a training program for all new custodial employees. This may include but not limited to Building Supervisors, Building Operators, Event Operators, and vendor custodial staff.
  • Administer training programs to custodial staff. This may include but not limited to Building Supervisors, Building Operators, Event Operators, and vendor custodial staff.
  • Provides feedback to Principals and Administrators for the purpose of evaluating Building Supervisors, Building Operators, and Event Operators.
  • Approve building requests for custodial supplies and make recommendations for purchase of equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring the district complies with local, State and Federal regulations such as OSHA, Asbestos, A.D.A., IDEM, etc.
  • Routinely evaluates the cleanliness of all buildings through regular inspections. Share inspection results with building administrators to assist in the evaluation process.
  • Spend a minimum of 50% of their time in buildings to ensuring our custodial and maintenance expectations are being met. (It is expected that evening hours will be required and some weekends. A flexible or non-traditional schedule may apply.)
  • Keep current on methods and procedures concerning housekeeping and cleaning.
  • Assist with coordination of non-routine cleaning projects.
  • Ensure proper A. D. A. signage.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets in accordance with 081-IA requirements.
  • Monitor and approve use of overtime for direct reports.
  • Manages the performance of direct reports and works with the HR Department related to any employment related issues.
  • Recruits, interviews, and makes recommendations to hire for positions under their supervision. Works with building administration in the hiring of Building Supervisors, Building Operators, and Event Operators.
  • Supervise the purchase of employee uniforms.
  • Oversee projects as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
  • Responsible for waste and recycle programs, and management of waste vendors
  • Ensures pools in the school district are in compliance with local and state guidelines.
  • Will assist the Facilities Manager in flooring and painting projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : All custodial staff and serves as a backup manager for the department areas as needed.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

    The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his / her employment in the Corporation.

    Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
