Position Description
New Beginnings for Refugees is a 501c3 non-profit established in 2021 in Wausau, WI to provide local support to refugees who are resettling in the Wausau area.
Our mission is to provide compassionate and coordinated opportunities for our community to support refugees as they seek to put down new roots. Our refugee services include English Language Learning (ELL) classes, childcare during ELL classes, the collection of home goods for new arrivals, a hygiene and household supply pantry for refugees, and community education and engagement for refugees in our community.
Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial leadership of New Beginnings for Refugees. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will oversee fundraising, program development, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with a passion for empowering refugees, a strong background in communications and the ability to build meaningful partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute the organization's strategic vision in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Lead and inspire a diverse team of staff and volunteers to advance the organization's mission.
- Foster a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the organization.
Program Management & Communications
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of New Beginnings for Refugees programs and services.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, government agencies, volunteers, donors, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of consistent organizational communications.
Fundraising & Financial Management
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies, including grant writing, donor relations, and special events.
- Oversee the organization's financial health, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance with regulations.
- Identify and secure new funding opportunities to ensure long-term sustainability.
- Maintain transparency and open communication regarding operations and financial status with the Board of Directors.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, International Relations, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and financial management.
- Computer skills, including MS Office, Google Docs, Adobe Acrobat.
- Website and Social media experience, including Facebook and Instagram.
- Database experience.

The position is .75 FTEs, approximately 30 hours per week, including office hours (Tues-Thur, 9am-2:30pm) and flexible/remote time. One monthly evening board meeting is required.
Benefits include paid time off and a healthcare stipend (insurance not available).
Due to the currently uncertain policies and funding support in the immigration and non-profit sector, this position will be reassessed six months after hire.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
