Camp Counselor - Camp Y-ki
GENERAL FUNCTION
To carry out all camper activities designated by Directors, Assistant Directors and Specialists. Responsible for safety and welfare of group of children assigned at any given time.
KNOW-HOW
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Previous camp experience and/or related experience with children.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
• To be a role model throughout each and every camp day by instilling the YMCA Four Core values of Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Caring.
• Arrive each camp day and report to a Director by 8:40AM. The camp day ends at 4:30 PM at which time you must report to a Director before you leave. Both arrival and departure times may change at the discretion of the Camp Directors ( i.e. camp meetings, first day of camp, etc).
• Conduct on own/or assist Specialists and Unit Head daily in such programs as: aquatic instruction, arts & crafts, games, storytelling, singing, and special events.
• Maintain a firm, yet safe environment for campers.
• Demonstrate proper attitude and enthusiasm towards camp and encourage participation in activities.
• Responsibility for campers assigned to you and supervision of all campers.
• Help foster the intellectual, social, and physical growth of campers by providing a meaningful and enjoyable camp experience.
• Conduct own planning of group camp activities.
• Conduct planning of Unit activities with other co-workers in Unit.
• Care and proper storage of all equipment and supplies.
• Set a good example to campers by respecting rules, showing respect, for the outdoors and dressing appropriately.
• Participate in ALL CAMP assemblies.
• Plan, attend and assist with: Family Picnics, Special Events and field trips.
• Assist in maintenance of locker rooms and keeping camp grounds clean.
• If eligible work extended day shifts throughout the camp season.
• Planning and implementation of diversified programs for campers, keeping in mind their needs, interests and ability level.
• Teach Swim lessons to the group designated to you, by the Waterfront Director.
• Assist during Free Swim daily, as assigned.
• Attend all camp staff meetings.
• Adhere to all requirements and rules set forth in the Camp Counselor Handbook.
• Perform other duties as designated by the Camp Directors, Assistant Camp Director, and Specialists.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to: climb, kneel, reach, push, swim, balance, crouch, stand, pull, grasp, repetitive motions, navigate stairs, stoop, crawl, walk, lift, talk, hear, and sit.
• The employee may occasionally need to exercise these physical labor demands: exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close/far vision, ability to adjust focus, peripheral vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
• Acute hearing is essential to this position.
• In this position, this person will be frequently required to work in outside weather conditions.
• While performing the duties of this job, this individual may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat/cold, wet and/or humid environment, and moderate noise.

• Campers will enjoy constructive outdoor camp activities which instill teamwork and fair play for the duration of camp.

• Counselors will contribute to a summer of personal growth and memorable camp experiences.
Qualifications
Salary : $16
