WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE
The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing all quality processes, ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards. This role involves active supervision of the production floor (60% presence), conducting investigations, root cause analyses, and implementing corrective actions to maintain product integrity. The Quality Manager collaborates with multiple departments, leads quality improvement initiatives, and ensures customer satisfaction by addressing inquiries and complaints.
- Maintain a 60% on-the-floor presence to proactively identify, investigate, and resolve quality issues in real time.
- Oversee and enforce compliance with GMP, HACCP, FSMA, and other food safety and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct root cause analyses for deviations, customer complaints, and non-conformances, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented.
- Lead the monitoring and auditing of production processes, including verification of code dates, weight checks, specifications, plant GMPs, and documentation accuracy.
- Manage and oversee the rollout of new or modified processes specifically rolled out to the quality team including changes to our SOPs and programs
- Analyze analytical and microbiological test results for raw ingredients, finished products, process water, and plant equipment, ensuring compliance with quality specifications.
- Lead quality assurance audits, coordinating corrective action plans with QA, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Operations teams.
- Review daily quality reports, analyze data trends, and implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance product consistency.
- Manage the calibration, operation, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring accuracy in testing and documentation.
- Oversee training and development of Quality Assurance (QA) technicians to maintain high standards in quality monitoring and analysis.
- Serve as the primary contact for sales and customers regarding product quality inquiries, COAs, and sample requests.
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints, prepare detailed reports and coordinate corrective actions.
- Conduct internal and third-party audits, prepare documentation and lead corrective action initiatives.
- Develop and maintain quality control documentation, including SOPs, policies, and process improvement reports.
- Perform other quality control functions as required to uphold company and customer standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university, OR three to five years of equivalent related experience (preferably in a food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or chemical industry); or an equivalent combination of both education and experience
- Experience must include at least two years of supervision experience in a production environment.
- Valid Driver License and clean driving record.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to understand and apply moderately complex mathematical concepts, to include managing financial data and production reports
- Must possess a track record of successful, continuous improvement initiatives and results.
- Strong leadership, facilitation, motivation and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to resolve conflict situations
- Excellent communication skills, which will be demonstrated in constant daily communication to Supervisors, peers and reports. Must be able to effectively prepare and present information
- Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekend and overtime as business demands
- Proficient in computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
- Travel: ~10% required
- Five years in Quality Assurance in the fresh produce or food-processing environment
- HACCP, SQF and Better Process Control School training certificates desired
- Bilingual
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Operate office equipment requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in an upright position walking on both even and uneven surfaces
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding, using 3-point contact on a regular basis
- Ability to stoop, crouch, and kneel on a regular basis
- Environmental exposure- hot/humid conditions (95 ° or above).
- Environmental exposure- cold/wet conditions (40 ° or below)
- Material exposure – moving mechanical parts
- Occasional exposure to environmental factors such as fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to use hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, and handle objects in one position for an extended period of time.
- Able to work in loud noise when conducting plant monitoring and inspections
HOURS & WORKDAYS:
Monday through Friday; Overtime, Weekends, and Holidays may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may be mandatory depending on department/business needs as well.
