The New Castle County's Department of Public Works will have openings for temporary seasonal employees in our Property Maintenance Sections. Positions work up to 37.5 hours per week for no more than six (6) months per calendar year. Applicants must be 16 years of age, and a valid driver's license may be required depending upon position. Selected applicants must pass a background check and drug screen prior to their start date.

PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER
Park Maintenance positions are responsible for assisting maintenance staff with all aspects of maintaining the park grounds and facilities. The essential duties of the position are core functions common to all levels of the position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list.
- Performs grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, trail maintenance, landscape bed maintenance, trash removal, vegetation removal, leaf removal and snow/ice removal.
- Performs custodial services in restrooms and other facilities.
- Operation of landscaping equipment and use of hand and power tools.
- Set-up, monitoring and clean-up support for recreation programs and special events.
- Maintains good public relations and provides excellent customer service with park visitors and staff.
- Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Other duties as assigned.
(PWW I, $15.00-$18.23/hr.)
This is entry-level work with no experience required; however, individuals must meet minimum age qualifications to secure a work permit.
PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER II - Full Time Positions
(PWW II, $15.75-$19.14/hr.)
Applicant must have at least one (1) year experience in work related to the duties performed and possession of a high school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of experience, education or training directly related to the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER III – Full Time Positions
(PWW III, $16.54-$20.10/hr.)
Applicants must have at least three (3) years' experience in work related to the duties to be performed (experience must have been at the supervisory level if the duties of the position require supervision) and possession of a high school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of experience, education or training directly related to the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
