The Lead Counselor is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a camper group while supporting and mentoring junior staff. Camper groups are typically age-specific (e.g., ages 4-5) and non-gendered. The Lead Counselor ensures the group’s safety, engages campers in activities, and fosters positive relationships among campers and staff. This role also includes assisting with administrative tasks, coordinating with specialists, and serving as a role model for staff and campers alike.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 21 years old by the start of employment
- Bachelor’s degree (or current enrollment) in Education, Child Development, Social Work, or a related field preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with children in educational, recreational, or camp settings
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and mentor other staff
- Proven ability to manage group dynamics and foster a positive, inclusive environment
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- High level of professionalism, adaptability, and integrity
- Enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of humor
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be at drop-off point on time, dressed appropriately, at 8:30am, to greet campers
- Maintain continuous accountability and safety for campers from 8:30am until the end of your contract day
- Assist with transition times by providing clear, supportive direction to campers
- Assist specialists by participating enthusiastically in activities
- Actively supervise transition times, group time activities, and lunch
- Guide group and individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities
- Refrain from discussing non-camp issues (i.e. personal issues) during camp time, especially in front of campers
- Set a positive example for campers and other,s including punctuality and sportsmanship
- Respect confidentiality by refraining from sharing sensitive staff or camper information with others
- Report to the Directors any and all threats to camper safety and wellbeing in a timely fashion
- In the event of a camper accident (including soiling), take necessary steps to provide for the camper’s well-being
- Lead by example in respecting differences among campers and staff
- Maintain a nurturing, professional, and enthusiastic attitude at all times
- Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents
- Execute fully any reasonable requests by the Specialists and Directors
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
