For the Economics program, candidates are expected to participate in teaching rotations for Introduction to Microeconomics and Introduction to Macroeconomics, as well as teaching courses in their specialties. In Classics, we seek a candidate able to teach the Great Books in translation across the curriculum. The faculty member will receive a yearly evaluation letter from the Chair of Social Sciences, and an evaluation letter from any other program the faculty member is teaching in, as appropriate. The faculty member’s home division will be Social Sciences, although this interdisciplinary position was established by the President of New College.

New College, the nationally recognized honors college of the State University System of Florida, is a small, highly selective, innovative liberal arts institution. Students, with the help of faculty sponsors, plan their own academic programs through a series of semester contracts, and receive narrative evaluations in lieu of grades. Undergraduate research has a central role in the curriculum, and a senior thesis or project is required of all students. The teaching load is two courses per semester plus sponsoring individual and group tutorials. Faculty members also provide academic advising, supervise independent study projects, sponsor senior theses, and serve on baccalaureate committees.
