Position Summary
The Assistant Director of College Counseling will work collaboratively with the Director of College Counseling to shape the vision for the college counseling program from grades 7-12 to meet the ever-evolving needs of the college application landscape while maintaining a student-centric, healthy, and future-focused approach. This role involves advising students, supporting the college application and selection process, managing administrative tasks, and contributing to the overall success of the college counseling program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Embody NEIA's principles of empathy, equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaboration in all work activities and actions.
● Teaches a weekly college counseling course for grades 11 and 12.
● Partner with students to create a personalized college list based on the best-fit principle, reflecting their individual academic and personal goals. Provide personalized guidance to students and families throughout the college application process.
● Engage with parents/guardians to maintain clear, consistent communication and ensure families are aligned with the college application process and timeline. This includes regular check-ins, updates, and guidance on supporting their child throughout the application journey..
● Conduct workshops for students and families to provide information and support the college admissions process, including both administrative and emotional support. Contribute to the development and implementation of college counseling workshops, programs, and classes.
● Assist with college research, list development, and application strategies.
● Advise students on standardized testing, essay writing, and interview preparation.
● Help students tell their own stories and translate their unique NEIA experiences into compelling narratives.
● Manage the college counseling office database and maintain accurate student records.
● Coordinate college visits and on-campus college representative visits. Partner with representatives to understand NEIA’s philosophy and pedagogy and maintain college counseling relationships.
● Establish new and maintain ongoing relationships with college admission officers.
● Assist with financial aid counseling and scholarship applications.
● Collaborate with faculty and staff to support students' academic and personal development.
● Proactively research and plan participation to regularly visit college campuses and attend relevant conferences.
● Assist with college application and transcript submissions.
● Manage the testing program on campus - PSAT and SAT school day.
● Write letters of recommendation for assigned students and offer guidance to faculty about their written recommendations.
● Advise students on course selection and its impact on the college selection process in collaboration with the Head of Teaching & Learning, Advocates, and Teachers.
● Build positive relationships with students, fostering their academic growth and development.
● Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and school counselors to enhance student learning experience.
● Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students' performance and needs.
● Support the initiatives and strategic goals set forth by School Leadership.
● Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned and required by the position and the School.
Salary : $75,000 - $85,000
