Overview
New England Institute of Technology (NEIT), a non-profit, technical university in East Greenwich, RI, has an exciting opportunity for a professional to encourage, support and assist students in their efforts to graduate. This is a full-time, year-round position offering excellent benefits. The position requires working on campus.
Position Responsibilities
1. Advise students of degree requirements and assist them in the registration process and course selection. (NEIT has a quarter system rather than a semester system requiring that students register for classes four times per year.)
2. Work collaboratively with academic department chairs, faculty and administrative departments to identify strategies to assist students to persist to the next academic term.
3. Monitor individual student attendance and degree progress for the students in the student advisor’s assigned academic programs and coordinate outreach to students via phone calls, e-mails and classroom visits.
4. Assist students in overcoming any obstacles that may interfere with their ability to earn a degree. Make any necessary referrals to additional resources.
5. Facilitate requests for, and provision of, approved accommodations for students.
6. Make in-class presentations to students to increase awareness of the services provided through the Office of Student Support Services.
7. Meet with students’ family members to provide information regarding student progress and to identify plans to enhance the students’ ability to succeed.
8. Conduct student conduct meetings for incidents that occur in locations other than the residence hall. Enter and maintain conduct documents in Maxient.
9. Participate in university events, such as Tech Nites, open houses, Move-In Day, orientations and commencement.
10. Additional duties, projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Life.
Qualifications
· Master's degree in higher education, college student development, counseling or related field required
· Familiarity with current trends and practices in student retention preferred
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate effectively with students
