What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Mentor - Graveyard Shift position at New Focus Academy?
Located in beautiful Heber City, New Focus Academy is a Residential Treatment Center. At New Focus Academy, we assist students with a variety of cognitive, social, and emotional struggles affecting their ability to manage their interpersonal relationships and daily life. Our students are between the ages of 12 to 18 years old, are uniquely abled, and have neurodiverse minds. Here are some labels typically associated with our students:
- Autism Spectrum Disorders (High to Moderate functioning)
- Attention Disorders (ADHD, ADD, etc.)
- Executive Functioning Deficits
- Learning Disorders
- Low Working Memory
- Low Processing Speed
- Nonverbal Learning Deficits
- Prenatal Substance Exposure (fetal alcohol, etc.)
- Social Pragmatic Communication Disorders
- Traumatic Brain Injuries
As a Youth Mentor you will be trained in proper mentoring methods. We work daily to help our students reach their therapeutic goals and gain greater awareness of their unique abilities to adapt to everyday life.
Successful nights lead to successful days. As a Youth Mentor during the night shift you will be a vital part of a dynamic team whose purpose is to help our students succeed as they strive for the greatest level of autonomy they can achieve. Our night Youth Mentors will be stationed near the students' bedrooms in order to more easily check on them as they sleep to ensure that students are accounted for, safe, and able to get the rest they need. Youth Mentors working the night shift must stay awake throughout the night and perform regular checks on each of the students. Occasionally, specific training will be provided to help in de-escalating a student’s emotional state as needed.
Certifications Required:
- First Aid and CPR certificate (Training provided if not currently certified.)
- Food Handler Permit (Online certification course provided if not currently certified.)
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Able to pass background check
Qualifications:
- Applicants should be punctual, and reliable, with consistent and reliable transportation
- Be able to stay awake through the night
- Preference for applicants with experience working in a residential treatment center setting and/or who are currently working towards a Bachelors degree in fields such as Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Education, or Behavioral Science
- Patient with others
- Able to stay centered while dealing with stressful situations
- Patience in listening
- Able to rely on and provide immediate support to members of your team
- Able to set and maintain appropriate boundaries
